Delete your GatherU account
This page is for the GatherU app (Android and iPhone), made by GatherU. It says how to delete your account and what happens to your data.
GatherU has no central account server: we, the people who make it, do not hold your account or anything in it. Your account lives on your own phone, and copies of what you shared live on the servers you joined — your family's home server, or an organization's — which are run by your family or the organization, not by us.
Delete it in the app
- Open GatherU and sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Go to Profile, then Settings, then Delete My Account.
- Read what will be deleted, type your password, and tap Delete My Account.
A child's account in a family's home group is deleted by their parent: on the child's account, Settings asks for the parent password.
If this account is also on another phone of yours, delete it there too.
What is deleted
- On your phone, at once and for good: your account and sign-in, your classes, lessons and questions, your answers, marks and grades, your notes, requests and connections, your settings, and the files attached to your classes. If nobody else signs in on the phone, everything on it is erased, including the accounts of your own children in your home group (the app lists them first). If others sign in on it too, only your account and what is only yours goes; theirs stays.
- On every server your phone has joined, which the app asks to forget you: they stop sending your things to the phone, and delete the email address and username you gave for forgotten sign-ins and your sealed account backups. An organization also deletes the name and age you shared with it and your ratings, and takes you off the classes you had not finished.
What is kept, and by whom
- Records other people keep about their own work with you stay with them: a teacher's record of their student's answers and marks, a parent's view of their child's work, an organization's grades and certificates for classes you finished. These are on their phones and servers, under their care.
- A family's home server keeps copies of what was shared through it with the family until whoever runs it removes them.
- A server the app could not reach when you deleted your account (switched off, or not updated yet) is not told. The app names it; ask whoever runs it to remove your account.
We keep nothing about you, because we never receive it: the app sends us no data at all (see the privacy policy).
No longer have the app?
Uninstalling GatherU deletes everything it kept on that phone (on Android, GatherU is never part of the phone's cloud backup). To have an organization or a family's server delete what it holds of yours, ask whoever runs it — the organization's office, or the person who set up your family's server.
If you cannot reach them, or want help, write to support@wegatheru.com with the subject Delete my GatherU account and the name of the organization. We will help you reach them.
