GatherU

Getting started

A family

  1. Install GatherU from the App Store or Google Play and create your account. An email is optional. It is used only to send you a forgotten username or a password-reset link, and only once the server's email settings have been set up.
  2. Under Connect, add a home-group child, with their own username and password. Set a parent password when asked: it guards the parent-only screens.
  3. Write a class in Library, or import one, and assign it to the child from their page. They do the lessons under Work; you mark written answers and see the rest graded for you.
  4. Open the child's page → Dashboard for their report card.
  5. Optional: run the home server on the family computer so several phones share the same work, and open its page in a browser for status and backups.
  6. No computer? A parent's phone can be the meeting point instead: Profile → Servers → Use This Phone as a Meeting Point, then scan its code from the child's phone (Add a Server → Scan a Code). While GatherU is open on both, on the same WiFi, they keep each other up to date: classes, approvals, work handed in and marks. A tutor can do the same for students with the For My Students code, which sends the tutor's phone only what belongs to the tutor's classes.

An organization

  1. Download the server, run it, choose Organization, and open the address it prints in a browser to set up the owner account.
  2. Under Settings, give the organization a name and a joining word. Families join from the phone's Connect tab with the address and the word.
  3. Add classes to the Library, put them in the catalog, and approve requests under Requests. Staff mark under Marking.
  4. Terms, certifications, groups, announcements, analytics and plans are all in the menu when you need them.
