GatherU is built so that we — the people who make it — do not hold your data. This page says what the app does with information, where it goes, and what stays with you.
What we collect
Nothing. The GatherU phone app has no account with us, sends us no usage data, shows no advertising, and contains no third-party analytics or tracking. We do not know who uses the app.
Where your data lives
Everything you create — accounts, classes, lessons, answers, marks and grades — is stored on your own phone. If you join a server, the phone sends that server the changes it needs to share with the other phones you chose (a family's server, or an organization's). Those servers are run by the family or the organization, not by us. We have no access to them.
Children
GatherU is made for families and schools, and children use it under a parent's or an organization's care. A home-group child's account is created and controlled by a parent, who sets and can change its username and password, approves its connections and class requests, and can see its work. There is no in-app purchasing, no advertising and no way for a child to share data with us.
Email addresses
Giving an email is optional. It is used only to send you a forgotten username or a password-reset link, by a server your phone has joined, and only once that server's email settings have been set up. It is shared only with the servers your phone joins. Lock-down mode stops that use entirely.
Backups
A backup of an account is sealed with a passphrase only the owner knows. An organization that accepts student backups, or a family's home server, keeps the sealed file and cannot read it; it can only hand it back.
Organizations
An organization's server holds what the phones connected to it share with it: the classes it teaches, the work its students hand in for those classes, and names or ages people choose to share. A student's classes anywhere else — with another organization, at home, or with another household — are never sent to it. The organization is responsible for that data under its own policies. Its server never contacts us, including when a paid plan is in use: a plan is a signed file the server checks on its own.
Payments
Organizations that buy a plan pay through Stripe on our website. Stripe processes the card under its own privacy policy; we receive the organization's name, the email given at checkout and the payment status, which we keep for as long as the subscription runs and for our accounting afterwards.
Your rights
Because your data is on your devices and servers, you can see, change, export and delete it yourself, at any time, from the app. Deleting the app deletes its data from the phone. To delete your account — from your phone and from the servers you joined — use Settings → Delete My Account; Delete your account says what it deletes and what others keep. For anything about a payment, write to support@wegatheru.com.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date.
