The phone app
For iPhone, iPad and Android. Store links appear here when the app is published.
The organization server
For a school, church or club: one program on one PC that staff run from a browser, and that phones connect to. Windows, Mac or Linux.
The newest version appears here.
The home server
For a family: a small program on the computer at home that the family's phones join and keep in step with. Windows, Mac or Linux.
The newest version appears here.
Installing
- Install Node.js (the LTS version) if this computer does not have it.
- Unzip the download into a folder of its own, such as Documents\GatherU.
- Windows: double-click Start.cmd. The server starts in the tray, as a GatherU icon by the clock (it may be under the ^ arrow). Click the icon to open GatherU; right-click it to restart or stop the server, have it start with Windows, see its log, or quit.
- Mac or Linux: open a terminal in that folder, run ./start.sh, and choose the server. To have it start whenever you sign in, choose Start with this computer in the same menu.
Updating happens by itself. Once a day the server looks here for a new version, checks it is signed by GatherU, and switches over at a quiet hour (3 a.m. unless you change it). Your data is kept outside the program's folder, and a backup is made before a new version first starts.
Servers work on a home network as they are. An organization reachable over the internet should sit behind https; the getting-started notes for organizations explain how.
Developers: the whole project, both servers and the phone app, appears here.
